LENT: A TIME OF PRAYER, FASTING, and ALMS
A TIME OF SHARING –
Operation Rice Bowl: During Lent we are called upon to share our blessings with the poor and less fortunate in our midst and in the world. Set aside some of your blessings to help others--be it through the Church or other charitable agencies and organizations in our area. The customary RICE BOWL appeal is being made throughout our country during Lent. Rice Bowl containers and other information may be found on the tables at the doors of our churches.
Local Food Pantries: Please don’t forget to support local food pantries and care agencies during Lent if you are able. There are many in need who could use non-perishables, and your donation of food or monetary gifts can help those who would otherwise go without.
A TIME OF PRAYER and REFLECTION –
Daily Reflection Books: Prayer and reflection are essential for a successful season of Lent. You are encouraged to make the most of personal prayer time at home or even during lunch or breaks at work. Daily Books are available in church and at the Rectory. Donations are accepted to help with expenses.
Faith Sharing Groups: Please see flier on our Home Page.
DAILY SCHEDULE OF SERVICES AND PRAYER OPPORTUNITIES
This schedule is provided for each household, each parishioner and visitor to our parish to review and take in. Lent is the Church’s great retreat – and MORE is expected from each of us – our homes should be different, our habits should be adjusted. Let the healing of God’s love permeate your life this Lent. Beyond the bare minimum, our lives should reflect, internally and externally, the beauty of the season – and reflection on our lives over all, our own Baptism – and how we are living up to our promises to reject Satan, sin, and live renewed as people who truly believe in the words of the Faith we profess each week.
DAILY MASS: Monday through Friday, 7:00 a.m.
On SUNDAYS:
EVENING PRAYER
As the Second Vatican Council promotes, “Pastors of souls should see to it that the chief hours, especially Vespers (Evening Prayer), are celebrated in common in church on Sundays and the more solemn feasts. And the laity, too, are encouraged to recite the divine office, either with the priests, or among themselves, or even individually” (Sacrosanctum Concilium, 100). With that in mind, the Deacons of the Greater Pittston Deanery will continue gathering for Evening Prayer on the Sundays of Lent this year. Evening Prayer will take place according to the following Schedule:
I Sun, Mar 6th at 5:00pm Our Lady of the Eucharist, Pittston
